Quotations inspire me and help me feel good about the world. If you follow me on Twitter or Facebook, you’ll notice I post them daily and they usually get an enthusiastic response. The power of words to motivate and captivate is embodied beautifully and succinctly in a timeless quotation. Here are 10 fashionable designer quotations, starting with my favourite of all-time.

  1. A bit obvious but definitely Coco Chanel ‘Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening’

    • Yes, that’s a great one, too. Kind of reminds me of the YSL quote. Susie Bubble has that Chanel quote as her tag line.

  5. Not from a designer, but I love the facetiousness of this quote from Oscar Wilde: Fashion is a form of ugliness so intolerable that we have to alter it every six months.

    • #6 is one of the classics and it’s featured in the trailer for his movie which I’m dying to see. Except it reads “Fashion fades; love is eternal” (a little twist)

  6. A wonderful post! DVF always has such a strong, yet feminine, viewpoints, as to remind us that being a woman is not a consolation prize. And Betsey Johnson makes a very good point – something to keep in mind.   8. Loved this post… my fave quote here has to be the first one, by Coco Chanel… too many of us torture ourselves with uncomfortable attires in the name of style ;)

    • Chanel was a revolutionary when it came to providing women with clothes they could actually move in and making them feminine and fashionable at the same time.
