Chatting with Anthea for fashion doc

I had the privilege of being interviewed for a fashion documentary at The White Space at The Bay on Queen Street in Toronto yesterday. The White Space is a contemporary offshoot of The Room, a Canadian institution of designer labels to drool over. Thank goodness I have taken a pledge to buy only second-hand this year or I might have been in some financial trouble as we spent a couple of hours in the minimalist space adorned with collections by Rick Owens, Mary Katrantzou and many others, including Beyond Vintage (pictured below). The blouse is exquisite but I have to confess I’d probably like it even more if it were actual vintage.

Fashion in Toronto is a small community and I was delighted to run into familiar faces at the shoot: Marcus Kan, fashion director of Ukamaku which represents Canadian labels exclusively, Cynthia Cheng Mintz who provided the photo of me with director Anthea, and Jay Strut. I also connected with some new folks including Marta who writes With Love, Gabrielle.

We talked about Canadian fashion and the role of bloggers and reminisced about The Bay: past, present and future. We all agreed it’s come a long way since Bonnie Brooks took the helm and has done a fantastic job of promoting Canadian fashion and democratizing the whole designer deal (my words!)

Marta and Jay: check out the colour-blocking in the background

Later on, I checked out Ryerson School of Fashion’s evening and menswear collections. Pics from Wanderlust are on the FB page.

  1. Had a great time too!

Note: My last name is Cheng Mintz, no hyphen.

  2. I adore the White Space though my wallet doesn’t agree. I also enjoyed the colour blocking display.
