Toronto LG Fashion Week: LOVAS

When I covered the LOVAS show at LG Fashion Week a couple of seasons ago for Nolcha the theme was a touching, familial tale inspired by photos of the designer, Wesley Badanjak’s, grandmother. The family spirit was still alive and well this week as Badanjak presented his FW11 collection for LOVAS at Toronto Fashion Week in a showcase entitled “Sisters”, inspired by the immigration story of his mother and her twin.

Then, as now, looks were body-conscious and ultra-feminine but with an evolution toward more sophistication and tailoring. In the fall collection of a year ago body-conscious may have been a euphemism for “tight”. This time around the silhouettes are flattering, classic and reflect a true celebration of feminine beauty by focussing on the silhouette but not demanding its perfection. While viewing the collection I said to myself, “Now here is a man who loves women.”

  1. This was one of my favourites during the week. I really liked his Croation and 1970s influences as well as a touch of the 40s (shoulders) as well as maybe even a hint of the far east.

    • I enjoy his ultra-feminine take, too. You can see that he’s worked with David Dixon; the influence is apparent.

  2. I love the second costume and would totally wear it!
